Sarah Furness

Sarah has 20 years of military service as an RAF helicopter pilot, Squadron leader, mentor, and facilitator. Sarah led operational combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. During her experiences both at home and at war, Sarah learnt that tough and capable people don’t always feel as strong as they look. This prompted her to re-train and harness her experience and passion for helping people use their impressive (but often mischievous) brains as a force for good.

Friendly, easy going, full of energy and very passionate about the subjects she speaks about and wanting to share what she has learnt with others.

Former RAF Combat Helicopter Pilot and Founder of Well Be, Sarah Furness took charge of critical operational combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, where she was the first female helicopter pilot to fly and lead UK Special Forces missions in Iraq.

Whilst on this journey, Sarah made two profound revelations: that resilience and peak performance under pressure are not instinctive, yet humans possess an extraordinary capacity to thrive and excel under challenging circumstances when equipped with the right knowledge.

Now, she is passionately devoted to unlocking the secrets of outstanding resilience, performance, and courage "under fire," determined to empower others with this invaluable wisdom. Sarah has developed her own unique Healthy Automatic Behaviours in Threatening Scenarios (H.A.B.I.TS.) Formula – a way to train the mind to be a Jedi master under pressure and accomplish zen-like levels of self-belief and inner calm. Her techniques are backed up by science, proven in combat and immediately transferable into the workplace.

A qualified mindfulness coach and human factors facilitator, Sarah combines her military expertise with proven cognitive techniques to expertly guide you on your own journey of discovery. Translating lessons from the battlefield directly to the boardroom you’ll not only be captivated by her stories - you will leave the room, equipped with practicable and implementable tools.

We had time to sit down and catch up with our inspirational speaker Sarah Furness before she went on the stage in our latest Knowledge Guild showcase last month at the Brewery London. We spoke about Sarah's stories of becoming a passionately inspirational speaker, how she learned to control her fear in extreme situations, even death, and her advice for us as event professionals and leaders.
