Nick Robinson has been the BBC's Political Editor since October 2005, returning to the BBC after nearly three years as ITV News’ Political Editor. With a career spanning numerous political programmes, Nick has been a key figure on The Daily Politics, Newsnight, and Today on BBC Radio 4. He joined David Dimbleby, Jeremy Paxman, Jeremy Vine, and Emily Maitlis to cover and analyse the 2010 UK general election night. Beyond his role as Political Editor, Nick has made guest appearances on shows like Children in Need, Have I Got News for You, and Top Gear. In May 2011, he presented the documentary The Street that Cut Everything, an experiment in Preston, Lancashire, where residents had their council services withdrawn for six weeks. Additionally, in 2010, he presented Decision Time on Radio 4 and Tax and Spend on BBC 2.

Nick's career is a rare example of a successful transition from behind the camera to in front of it. A former Deputy Editor of both Panorama and On the Record, he became a political correspondent in 1996, covering his first General Election for BBC Radio in 1997. Nick joined the BBC as a production trainee in 1986 and worked on Brass Tacks, This Week, Next Week, Newsround, Pamela Armstrong Show, and Crimewatch. He rose from assistant producer to Deputy Editor on On the Record before moving to Panorama as Deputy Editor for three years.

Born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, in 1963, Nick attended Cheadle Hulme School and University College, Oxford, where he studied Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Inspired by family friend and legendary Today programme presenter Brian Redhead, Nick’s first broadcasting job was an unpaid gofer at Piccadilly Radio in Manchester, working for Jim Hancock of BBC North West.

During the 1992 General Election campaign, Nick edited The Vote Race, a special series examining political marketing and America's influence on British campaigning. He lives in North London with his wife Pippa and their three children.
