Lord Stuart Rose has enjoyed a remarkable career in retail, which began in 1971 when he joined Marks & Spencer as a management trainee. His early years at M&S saw him rise through the ranks, holding several senior positions that helped shape his leadership style and deep understanding of the retail industry. In 1989, he moved to the Burton Group, where he took on increasingly significant roles, eventually becoming Chief Executive of the Multiples Division in 1997. His leadership and strategic vision helped steer the company through a dynamic period of growth and transformation.

Following his success at Burton, Lord Rose went on to serve as CEO of Argos plc and Booker plc, further cementing his reputation as a trusted and visionary leader in the retail sector. In 2004, he returned to Marks & Spencer, this time as CEO, where he played a pivotal role in revitalising one of the UK’s most iconic brands. Under his leadership, M&S regained its footing and strengthened its market position. In 2006, he took on the dual role of Chairman and CEO, leading the company through several more transformative years before stepping down in 2010.

Today, Lord Rose continues to be a key figure in global retail. He is Chairman of Zenith Automotive, EG Group, Asda, and MAF Retail in Dubai, showcasing his ongoing influence and expertise across a wide range of sectors. His strategic insights are also valued in his role as Non-Executive Director at Time Out Group, further demonstrating his diverse leadership portfolio.

Stuart’s achievements have been widely recognised. In 2008, he was knighted for his outstanding contributions to the retail industry and his commitment to corporate social responsibility. His leadership and dedication were further honoured in 2014 when he was made a life peer, cementing his legacy as one of the most respected figures in the retail world.
