Lucy Siegle is a journalist and broadcaster and opinion leader based in the UK who specialises in climate and nature stories. Lucy’s book, Turning the Tide on Plastic: How Humanity (and you) Can Make Our Globe Clean Again was published in 2018.
Also known as an authority on the environmental and social footprint of the global fashion industry, her book To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing out the World, published by Fourth Estate London, 2011 was also the basis for hit Netflix documentary, The True Cost, (she is co-executive producer). In 2014 she co-founded the Green Carpet Challenge with Livia Firth. From 2004 to 2018 she wrote a weekly Ethical Living column for The Guardian/Observer which she describes as ‘an incredible 14 year dialogue about climate and nature and an intensifying crisis.
Lucy also collaborates with the singer, producer and ambassador for the UN Environment Programme, Ellie Goulding on climate advocacy and produces Ellie’s Pass the Mic series for social media.
Lucy has interviewed many a natural world hero, most recently Sir David Attenborough for her weekly podcast on telling climate stories, So Hot Right Now, produced by Sony Music. The podcast also appears as an animation on the Waterbear platform. Recently Lucy has filmed a major investigation into the energy from waste industry and UK recycling (aired Chanel 4, Dispatches March 2021); contributed a series for the launch of Times Earth, appeared on Times Radio and hosted and chaired a number of debates, including for the Guardian on food security, the Royal Television Society (greening TV: myth or reality) and Green Alliance on resource use and climate.
Lucy lives next to the River Thames, from which she collects plastic daily from her kayak and frequently posts on all aspects of nature stewardship and climate issues on @theseagull on instgram. Lucy is a trustee for the environmental NGO, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and chair of the Real Circularity Coalition, spearheading the change to a real circular economy. Lucy is an ambassador for The Circle, the women’s rights NGO founded by Annie Lennox 10 years ago. Recently she helped to launch The Circle’s third substantive legal report and roadmap to embedding a Living Wage for garment workers into EU Law with Jessica Simor QC, Kalpona Akter and Livia Firth.
Known for her playful, warm authority, Lucy has worked across all UK channels on different formats and themes, and draws on her impressive knowledge and experience on the speaking circuit.
