Juan Verde
A highly-respected businessperson, social entrepreneur, and keynote speaker, Juan Verde is a trusted advisor to international governments and companies; his work includes inspiring the next generation of future leaders, founding and growing successful business operations, and driving global sustainability efforts.

Currently senior partner at MAPA Group (an international business development-consulting firm), the keynote speaker has spent a prosperous career nurturing the successful operation of companies, targeting environmental causes, and promoting the development of future leaders.
Appointed by President Barack Obama, Juan served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia at the US Department of Commerce from 2009 to 2011; in this role, he pioneered efforts to solve trade policy and market access issues, and developed economic and commercial policies and programs with 52 countries.
A successful business entrepreneur, he founded the American Chamber of Commerce in the Canary Islands as well as PASS Inc., a strategic advisory firm providing market expansion advice to US companies entering the European market.
He has also served as Director for Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula for the Corporate Executive Board, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEB), a strategy consulting and research firm serving 400 of the Fortune 500 companies.
Juan has worked on 14 different national, regional and local election campaigns in the US and Latin America, including those of President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, and Senators Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton. As the International co-chair for the Obama campaign he implemented a strategy to mobilize over six million American citizens residing outside of the US to vote.
An avid supporter of social causes, Juan is also President of the Advanced Leadership Foundation, an American non-profit whose mission is to train the next generation of future leaders through professional skill and workforce development.
Speaking at the 2010 International Conference on Clean Energy, Juan has also been a long-time warrior in the fight against climate change through his promotion of sustainability, renewable energy, agribusiness and biomedicine; in fact, partnering with former Vice President Al Gore, he founded The Climate Project Spain and serves as president of the Fundacion Biosfera.
He also sits on a number of corporate and advisory boards including the Government of Lithuania’s International Advisory Committee; Abengoa Bioenergy S.A., a Spanish biotech ethanol company, and Andes Energy Corp., a global diversified energy corporation.
In 2012, he was elected to the Alumni Board of Directors at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
Currently, he splits his time between the US and Spain where he lives with his wife and two children.
