Dame Evelyn Glennie


Despite being profoundly deaf, Dame Evelyn Glennie is one of the world's most popular percussionists and  motivational speakers . She performs globally often with the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors; she also provides masterclasses educating the next generation on the art of percussion. Her London 2012 Olympic Games opening Ceremony performance was lauded at the highest levels.

Evelyn’s hearing disability has proved to be far from a hindrance and has blessed her with a unique outlook, and a determination to never take no for an answer.

Educational disability related themes are her primary areas of interest but she is also a truly compelling motivational speaker and a stunning musician.

Evelyn has commissioned over 135 new works for solo percussion and has won a Grammy Award in 1988 and two Grammy nominations in 2002. She was also nominated for a BAFTA for her first drama score.

Evelyn’s movie the Touch the Sound, The Concerto Project and Philadelphia Stories won her many fans as it exposed her enlightening story to a wider audience.

Her autobiography Good Vibrations is a best-seller and she fronted a BBC TV series.

Evelyn highlights the plight of music education in schools alongside Michael Kamen, Julian Lloyd Webber and James Galway on behalf of a high-profile campaign, and in 1993 she was awarded an OBE for services to music.

He inspirational TED speech has allowed Evelyn to teach the world to listen and helped to expose her vision.
