David Coulthard
David Coulthard is a celebrated former Formula 1 driver, media personality, author, and entrepreneur, known for his significant contributions to motor racing and media.
David Coulthard is a globally recognised figure in sports, known for his achievements as a Formula 1 Grand Prix driver, TV broadcaster, author, and entrepreneur. Hailing from Twynholm, Scotland, Coulthard began his racing career at the tender age of 11 with karting, and swiftly rose through the ranks of motor racing, claiming a victory at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. His early prowess earned him the inaugural McLaren Autosport 'Young Driver of the Year Award' in 1989, paving the way for a test drive with the McLaren Formula 1 team.
Starting out as a test driver for the Williams Formula 1 team in 1993, he supported legends like Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, and Ayrton Senna, and made his World Championship debut the next year. Coulthard's first win came at the 1995 Portuguese Grand Prix. His career then took him to McLaren, where over nine seasons he claimed 12 Grand Prix victories and finished in the top three of the World Championship five times, including wins at the British and Monaco Grands Prix.
In 2005, he joined the Red Bull Racing team, significantly aiding its development and achieving their first podium at the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix. He retired from Formula 1 racing in 2008, after a final podium at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Beyond racing, Coulthard has thrived in business, co-founding Whisper, a rapidly expanding media production company in Europe, and Velocity Experience, a firm specialising in branded corporate events. He is the President of the British Racing Drivers Club, managing the Silverstone Circuit.
Coulthard also champions diversity in racing through the More Than Equal initiative, which seeks to support the entry of women into Formula 1. He remains active in the sport, driving for Red Bull at promotional events, co-commentating for Channel 4's Formula 1 coverage in the UK, and conducting podium interviews for Formula 1’s global broadcast.
Author of two books, his autobiography "It Is What It Is" and "The Winning Formula", which was a Sunday Times Best Seller, Coulthard's contributions to sport and society were recognised with an MBE in 2010.
