Claire Williams OBE is the former Deputy Team Principal of Williams Racing, now a consultant, speaker, and advocate for innovation, inclusion, and high-performance leadership in motorsport.
Claire Williams OBE is the former Deputy Team Principal of Williams Racing, one of just two women to lead a Formula 1 team in the modern era. Under her leadership, the team achieved its best results in over a decade, finishing third in the Constructors’ Championship in 2014 and 2015.
Claire began her career as a Press Officer at Silverstone before joining Williams in 2002. Over the next decade, she rose through the ranks to become Commercial Director and, in 2013, Deputy Team Principal, taking on responsibility for the team’s day-to-day operations and development. She played a key role in shaping the modern identity of Williams Racing, while honouring the legacy of her father, Sir Frank Williams, who founded the team.
Known for her calm leadership style and strategic insight, Claire helped guide the team to consistent top-five finishes and remained a strong voice within the sport. She was also a committed advocate for diversity and inclusion, championing greater opportunities for women and people with disabilities in Formula 1. During her tenure, she helped create a pathway for Susie Wolff to become the first female driver to take part in a race weekend in over 20 years. She also led initiatives to create opportunities for wheelchair users within the team and continues this work today as Vice President of the Spinal Injuries Association.
In 2023, Claire launched the Sir Frank Williams Academy, a charitable project supporting people with spinal cord injuries, with backing from the Williams team.
Since stepping down from the team in 2020, Claire has worked as a consultant for brands entering Formula 1 and is a sought-after speaker on high-performance leadership, resilience, and change. She is a Global Brand Ambassador for green technologies business Fortescue Zero (formerly WAE Technologies), and features as a Formula 1 analyst in Netflix’s Drive to Survive for the 2024 and 2025 series.
Claire was awarded an OBE in 2016 for her services to Formula One.
