Inside our B Corp Journey with our amazing B Corp Lead
Becoming a B Corp isn’t just a certification—it’s our commitment to doing business better. We sat down with Lois, who is one of our B Corp leads, to discuss the impact of certification, common misconceptions, and the future of ethical business. Lois is central to everything we do, working across teams and all B Corp pillars to keep us at the top of our game and always pushing for better.
Can you share examples of the positive changes that we’ve made as a result of B Corp certification?
We’ve made several changes to strengthen our environmental focus. For instance, we now source coffee pods from a B Corp-certified supplier and have introduced company-wide training on how and why to recycle—both in the office and at home. We’re also paying closer attention to customer feedback, using it to shape tailored workshops that help train our staff on what customers really want.
Are there any misconceptions about B Corp you'd like to clear?
Yes! A common misconception is that B Corp is only about environmental impact. In reality, that’s just one of the five pillars assessed. Ensuring the wellbeing of employees, customers, and the wider community is just as important, along with embedding ethical principles into the entire business structure.
What changes would you like to see in the business world to support more ethical and sustainable practices?
One of the biggest challenges is cost. With rising expenses impacting businesses and individuals alike, sustainable choices often come at a premium. If funding or subsidies were available to make ethical and sustainable options more affordable, I believe more businesses would make the switch.
How has being a B Corp influenced our company culture and decision-making?
It’s heightened awareness at all levels. We’re much more conscious of the ethical and environmental impact of every decision, from choosing B Corp-friendly suppliers to enhancing employee wellbeing, inclusivity, and fair treatment.
How do you see the future of the B Corp movement evolving?
I’d love to see B Corp values become the norm across UK businesses. If all companies made conscious positive changes—both ethically and environmentally—the benefits would be enormous for businesses, individuals, and society as a whole.
How do we, as a team, engage in social and environmental initiatives?
We’ve set up committees for each of the five B Corp pillars: Workers, Customers, Environment, Community, and Governance. Around a quarter of our team is actively involved in creating and implementing initiatives, with regular updates shared across the company. New starters also receive an introduction to B Corp, ensuring engagement from day one.
Looking Ahead
B Corp certification has been a transformative journey for us by helping to drive meaningful change. While challenges exist, the movement is growing, and we’re excited to be part of a global shift towards more ethical and sustainable business practices. By continuing to listen, learn, and take action, we can create a positive impact—not just for our company, but for the wider world.
