Louise Hazel
Louise was one of three British heptathletes that took part in the London 2012 Olympic Games and her finest hour to date was winning Commonwealth Games gold in 2010. In her talks she shares moments of inspiration from her own sporting career.
Louise Hazel is a top UK Heptathlete and followed up her Commonwealth Gold success in Delhi with a phenomenal performance at London 2012.
Background and career
Louise grew up in Cambridgeshire and was introduced to athletics by her late father. She joined March Braza Athletics Club at the age of 10 and is now a full-time athlete based at Birmingham High Performance Centre at Alexander Stadium, the home of her club Birchfield Harriers.
She has overcome numerous setbacks including injury and loss of her lottery funding two years ago to reach the top of her sport.
Boxing has always been a second passion of Louise’s and she used it as training at the boxing club March ABAC which was based in a disused Chapel at the back of her house!
Louise is now the fourth Commonwealth Heptathlon Champion from Birchfield Harriers, following in the footsteps of Denise Lewis, Judy Simpson and Kelly Sotherton.
Louise’s achievements include the 2006 European Championships, Gothenburg; the 2007 European Under 23 Championships, Hungary; the 2009 World Championships, Berlin; the 2010 UK Champion 100m Hurdles, and the 2010 Commonwealth Games Champion – Heptathlon.
She is currently sixth on the UK all-time list for Heptathlon, with a personal best score of 6156, behind Olympic Champion Denise Lewis and World Champion Jessica Ennis.
Louise developed a strong media profile following her first major Championships’ victory in Delhi. She represented the GB & NI team attending the Aviva and Daily Telegraph School Sports Matters Awards in November at Wembley and presented an award at the Film Nation Awards hosted by Sir Michael Parkinson in December.
Louise attended the prestigious 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards in Birmingham and will be appearing on BBC Question of Sport in the near future. She will be featured in the new Aviva TV advert in 2011, filmed recently with other Aviva GB & NI team athletes in London.
Louise is also a sports mentor at Birmingham University.
Her performance at London 2012 was exceptional, and she has been noted as 'one to watch' for the future.
