James Sherwood
James Sherwood is a charming and erudite TV presenter and speaker on fashion and luxury. An author, curator and broadcaster, he has written about fashion, bespoke tailoring and the diamond business for over twenty years for the likes of the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune and the Independent on Sunday. He is now Editor-at-Large of Singapore-based bible of men's elegance The Rake.
Author, curator and broadcaster James Sherwood has an unparalleled knowledge of the London fashion scene and its history. He is the author of countless acclaimed titles, including Savile Row: The Master Tailors of Savile Row and Fashion at Royal Ascot: Three Centuries of Thoroughbred Style.
He has written about fashion, bespoke tailoring and the diamond business for many years, starting out by editing the Louis Vuitton Guides to London. He reporting on fashion and men’s tailoring has led him to be featured in titles such as the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune and the Independent on Sunday. He is the Editor-at-Large of Singapore-based bible of men's elegance, The Rake.
In 2006, James was commissioned to curate the first major retrospective of over two centuries of Savile Row tailoring - The London Cut - which was shown for a month at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence. The London Cut was published in 2007.
His first book Models Close-Up was written in conjunction with David Bailey for a major Channel 4 documentary about the history of modelling.
James curated the Archive Room at No 1 Savile Row for Gieves & Hawkes with the last of the Gieve family Mr Robert Gieve; showing the Archive to HRH the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall's visit to the house in 2009.
Working in conjunction with the founding father of Savile Row, Henry Poole & Co, to catalogue and restore over 150 of the house's historic customer ledgers and works with Savile Row and Jermyn Street houses Hardy Amies, Anderson & Sheppard, Turnbull & Asser and Huntsman on special projects, James has played an instrumental part in uncovering the fashion history of the iconic tailoring business.
As an Ambassador for the Savoy Hotel he curates the Savoy Museum, inaugurated on 10.10.10. by HRH the Prince of Wales.
He has written and edited the Louis Vuitton Guide to London for eight consecutive years.
Between 2004 and 2010, James was the BBC's fashion critic at Royal Ascot. He was a guest of BBC News at the Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. He has appeared on several BBC documentaries including a three one-hour Savile Row series syndicated world-wide and also BBC2 series British Style Genius. He has also appeared on The One Show, Richard & Judy, BBC Breakfast and Sky.
Continuing to write on both the city and its fashion industry, James shares his erudite insights into cosmopolitan luxury. A great speaker for events in the luxury fashion industry , James’s consummate knowledge is incomparable.
