Sally Becker
Award-winner and Founder Sally Becker became known as the ‘Angel of Mostar’ following her work rescuing wounded children and their families from besieged hospitals in the nineties. Amidst the carnage and the chaos of numerous conflicts and injured children, she negotiated ceasefires in areas where others had failed and is credited with saving hundreds of lives. A truly passionate advocate of those whose lives have been affected by war, Sally draws on her experiences to inspire audiences as a powerful, humorous and inspirational keynote speaker.
Sally’s work as a humanitarian has been well documented, especially in Bosnia where she became known as ‘The Angel of Mostar’ after rescuing wounded children and their families from besieged hospitals.
During the war in Kosovo, Sally was captured by Serb paramilitaries whilst taking injured children across the mountains to safety. Not only this, but she was also shot by masked gunmen in Northern Albania and was caught in a chemical attack by ISIS whilst rescuing injured children in Iraq. Responding to a request to help victims of the war in Ukraine this year, she arranged the evacuation of over 200 orphaned children from the conflict zones.
Sally’s rescue work has been recognised with many awards, including the Freedom of Tropoje Award, Unsung Heroes Award for Bravery, The Ross McWhirter Award for Bravery, The Variety Club Award and Woman of the Year, Blue Drop Group Sicily, as well as an invite to Windsor Castle where she was introduced to Queen Elizabeth II.
In 2012 Sally was chosen to carry the Olympic Flag for Peace and Justice alongside Mohammed Ali at the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games.
In 2014 Sally founded Road to Peace, a registered UK Charity working across the globe to facilitate vital medical treatment for sick and injured children; an example of whom was the much publicised Dilbreen, who was severely burned in an Iraqi settlement camp, and who’s family were separated from him during President Trump’s Muslim ban.
Sally is the Founder of ‘Save a Child’, a medical app that connects doctors in areas of conflict with a global network of paediatric specialists ready to assist remotely.
She draws in on her experience of helping innocent victims in numerous war zones to show that with courage and determination, anything is possible. A truly passionate advocate of those who have been affected by war, Sally is a powerful, humorous and inspirational keynote speaker.
