Prior to assuming his position as CEO of The Football Association, Martin has worked in several leadership spots, including CEO if United Biscuits and Birds Eye Igloo. Martin was President of Walkers Snack Foods, whom he joined in 1992, working his way up from Director of New Product Development, Vice-President of Marketing (where he introduced the on-going Gary Lineker advertising campaign and launched the ‘Doritos Tortilla Chip’ brand) to become Walkers President in 1998. His talent and aptitude for spotting a good marketing opportunity was clear from his first role.
Once assuming General management positions for Walkers Snacks Ltd and subsequently PepsiCo UK & Ireland, Martin had full line responsibility for a business approaching $2Bn and strong double digit operating margins. Enjoying growth rates well in excess of the Food & Drink market, Martin led a business which has posted topline growth of 7% (5 year CAGR) and a doubling of profitability.
Martin is also one of the foremost UK Marketers who has managed the transition into general management. In 2004 he was placed number one on Marketing Magazine's ranking of influential marketeers in recognition of his business and brand building track record and his leadership role in the highly-charged obesity debate.
He took on the role of CEO of The Football Association in 2015 and works to develop the sport in all age groups and regulate the disciplinary system. Experienced in managing high performance teams, Martin can present his experiences in a humorous and thought-provoking way. His years of experience in the marketing industry and in the football work allows him to discuss marketing techniques, teamwork on the football pitch and boardroom, how to grow in mature markets and achieve customer brand loyalty.
