Ria Lina
Ria Lina has been a regular fixture on the global comedy circuit for the last 10 years, entertaining audiences with her dry wit and the occasional song.
A versatile performer, who can just as easily MC as headline, Ria has a number of critically acclaimed shows to her name, both as a performer and writer.
Ria oozes with charm and intelligence that somehow allows her to get away with the most audacious routines to subtle wordplay, delighting audiences from Glasgow to Singapore and Seattle to Australia.
Ria has been a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival since 2011. Her 2014 show “School of Riason” was nominated for the Amused Moose Laughter Awards, contained one of Dave TV’s Top 10 Jokes of the Festival, and was commissioned by BBC Radio 4 as a half-hour special to be recorded and aired in 2016. Previous projects include her critically acclaimed shows “Thpethial” (2013) and “It’s Not Easy Being Yellow” (2012), which travelled to the Brighton Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe, and Singapore International Festivals. Her most recent show but one, Taboo Raider (2015), was filmed for DVD release and can now be seen on the NextUp online comedy streaming platform. And her most recent, Ria Lina: Dear Daughter (2016) won Best Comedy Show at the Greater Manchester Fringe.
When in Edinburgh, Ria also produces and stars in Ettieboo’s Cabaret Boonanza – a mixed bill cabaret show that gives all the weird and wonderful acts a forum. The show’s ethos is to give everybody a chance. Some people get asked back, some…don’t, but you are guaranteed a real insight and flavour into the true nature of Fringe.
In January 2018, Ettieboo’s Boonanza was commissioned by the newly reopened Aeronaut in Acton, London where it now lives once a month.
In the past, Ria has written for the Ladyboys of Bangkok “Fantasy & Feathers” 2010 & “Glamorous Amorous” 2013 tours, and wrote/acted for the ITV2 comedy sketch show (Meet the Blogs). She has also written and presented her own documentary for Channel 4 revealing the truth behind the myths that surround oriental women in Britain; other projects include the comedy series, Sweet n’ Sour Comedy and Malai Monologues, for BBC3; The World Stands Up, for Comedy Central (USA), the Paramount Comedy Channel (UK), and the Comedy Network Channel (AUS). She also maintains her own YouTube channel of sketches, song parody’s and original numbers and as an actress has been seen in a variety of projects.
