Sarah Outen
Sarah Outen rowed across the Indian Ocean. Alone. An inspirational after dinner speaker, Sarah talks about her journey of commitment to life and survival against the cruel mother nature. Enduring extreme conditions and remote environments is Sarah's job, she has been through some gruelling situations including a hurricane in the Atlantic sea. But not one to give up, Sarah shares her motivational story about overcoming unimaginable adversities.
Sarah Outen MBE spent a decade pursuing extroadinary journeys across the globe, often remote and generally solo, by human-powered means.
In 2009 Sarah Outen rowed across the Indian Ocean. Alone: just Sarah and her little boat, Dippers.
Her row from Australia to Mauritius was dedicated to the memory of her Dad, Derek, who died suddenly in 2006. On the way she broke 2 oars, ate 500 bars of chocolate and still lost 20kg bodyweight. It took Sarah 124 days and she scooped a few Guinness World Records along the way: first woman & youngest person to solo the Indian; youngest woman to solo any ocean. It was raw and elemental -just as adventure should be.
In 2011, Sarah set out on a new adventure. Her London2London: Via the World journey saw her row, cycle and kayak a 25,000-mile loop of the Northern Hemisphere over 4.5 years.
Her ocean rowing journeys earned her multiple firsts and world records, and they also cost her dearly in terms of her health.
Now, as an esteemed and popular keynote speaker, Sarah candidly shares the highs and lows of expedition life, expertly weaving tailored learnings through her narratives according to her client's goals.
An experienced storyteller, known for putting audiences at ease with her warmth and calm, disarming style, Sarah holds people through the drama and tension of her journeys with her trademark authenticity.
Sarah's goal is always to leave audiences considering their own ability to ride storms and pursue successes differently, too.
Sarah has authored two books, both were hugely popular, and has also produced an award-winning feature length film of her journeys.
These days Sarah is a trainee psychotherapist and works therapeutically with clients and well as being a key-note speaker, sharing all that she learnt about resilience, mental health, managing setbacks, navigating change, attitudes needed for success and performance under pressure.
