Shazia Mirza
Comedian and columnist, Shazia Mirza, is an award-winning British Asian Muslim stand-up comedian from Birmingham England. Shazia's comedy covers a range of subjects that include: everyday observational, pop culture and current affairs. When not on stage, or hosting an event, Shazia can be found writing for The Guardian and The Financial Times.
An Award winning British stand-up comedian and writer, Shazia Mirza has been leading the comedy circuit since 2000.
Shazia’s sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe festivals led to her touring the globe, with her comedy career sky rocketing. She’s also an experienced awards host, suited for any corporate occasion.
Her stand-up show ‘With Love From St. Tropez’ toured internationally in 2017/18 and her critically acclaimed ‘The Kardashians Made Me Do It’ played for 103 nights internationally across the UK and Europe, along with four sell out runs at Soho Theatre in 2017/17. Described as ‘A powerful show from a powerful woman… fearless, brutal and beautiful’ by The Scotsman, the show featured on CNN’s Amanpour, France24, Reuters and ITV News.
She’s appeared on numerous established radio and TV shows, including ‘Have I Got News For You’, ‘QI’, and ‘The Hit List’, along with being the subject of a BBC 2 First Sight Documentary and survived 2017’s ‘Celebrity Island’ with Bear Grylls.
Shazia also has a podcast, with journalist John Kampfner ‘Pale, Male and Stale’ where they take an irreverent look at current affairs, whilst chatting to fabulous guests.
The Observer named her as one of the Top 10 Female Comedians and in 2010 she won the Arts and Culture Award at the AWA Awards.
In addition to being a talented comedian, Shazia is also a writer; she has written columns for the New Statesman and was a weekly columnist in the Guardian Weekend Magazine with her column, ‘Diary of a Disappointing Daughter’.
