One of the country's most recognizable entertainers, Julian Clary has turned his hand to comedy, acting, presenting, and writing during his time working in showbusiness. A great entertainer, presenter and comedian for special corporate events, Julian adds that touch of glam to any awards evening, gala dinner or show.

In the Beginning

Julian Clary went to School at Ealing Abbey, where the Benedictine Monks taught him the rudiments of glamour and alternative living. He went on to study English and Drama at Goldsmith’s College, University of London where he began performing as half of the double act Glad and May.

After college Julian joined the Covent Garden Community Theatre for three productions, most notably ‘I was a teenage sausage dog’.  After some time as a singing telegram Julian began to working on the cabaret circuit as Gillian Pie-Face, later known as The Joan Collins Fan Club. A small mongrel called Fanny The Wonderdog joined him on stage and her uncanny impersonations of the Pope and members of the Royal Family were a big success.

Television Work

Television work followed, Friday Night Live (Ch4), Sticky Moments (Ch4), Terry and Julian (Ch4), All Rise (BBC2), It’s Only TV But I Like It (BBC1) and Prickly Heat (SKY ONE). He has also hosted the National Lottery on a Saturday night live.

Touring

Live tours include:- Mincing Machine, My Glittering Passage, which finished with a six week run at the Aldwych Theatre, Bare Faced Cheek and most recently Special Delivery which culminated in a four week run at the Vaudeville Theatre.

In his time Julian has performed at fourteen Edinburgh Festivals, two Royal Variety Shows and the Vauxhall Tavern. He has also toured Australia, New Zealand four times and worked in Canada, America and Morocco. Julian is also a regular panellist on Radio Four’s ‘Just A Minute’.  In September 2002 Julian did a three-month run in the West End musical Taboo, playing Leigh Bowery. Julian also took part in the tour of Taboo, which finished in July 2004.

Julian toured his new live show ‘Natural Born Mincer’, which he took to  Edinburgh Festival and then to Australia. In 2009/10 Julia toured Lord of the Mince.  Julian has published his autobiography ‘ A Young Man’s Passage ’ in 2006 and has taken on writing fictional books.
