Jeremy Paxman

Broadcaster, journalist and author, Jeremy Paxman has been famed for his confrontational interviewing style. Having worked on television since 1972, Jeremy is one of the most well-respected and loved faces on our screens. Jeremy Paxman is an award-winning journalist, author and television presenter.  Known for his no-nonsense style of interview, Paxman is a true legend among British broadcasters.

Beginning his career covering The Troubles in Northern Ireland for three years, Jeremy moved onto the Tonight Programme, and then Panorama.

Jeremy Paxman moved onto anchor Newsnight in 1989, a post he held for over 25 years.

He has been chairman of University Challenge since 1994, making him the longest-serving current quiz host on the television.

Jeremy has presented numerous documentaries on the BBC including The Victorians, and Britain’s Great War, which was accompanied by his book, Great Britain’s Great War.

His 2014 one-man show PAXO at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was a critically acclaimed sell-out.

Jeremy Paxman was brought up in Yorkshire, educated at Malvern College in Worcestershire and received his degree (in English) from St Catharine's College, Cambridge. He is an honorary fellow there, and a Fellow by Special Election at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. He holds honorary doctorates from Leeds, Bradford and the Open University.

He is the author of ten books, including The English - Portrait of a People; The Political Animal; On Royalty; The Victorians; Empire - What Ruling the World Did to the British. Great Britain’s Great War. His memoir, A life in Questions was published in 2016.

His charitable interests include homelessness, mental health and education
