David Garrido

News-breaking, documentary-making, globe-trotting, transfer-talking, multi-lingual and challenge-seeking, David Garrido is one of the UK's most recognisable TV sports faces.

As an Oxford undergraduate, David’s  broadcasting  career began at the student radio station, and he soon became Sports Editor. Winning the 2000 BBC Talent campaign at the age of 20 was his big break, and his prize, a six-month contract presenting sports news on BBC News 24, propelled him to the start of his dream career.

In 2003, he moved to BBC Radio 1 to become the main daytime sports voice for Newsbeat, their long-standing flagship news programme, where David racked up experience at major sporting events, including two World Cups; two Champions League finals; five Wimbledon’s and five Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

During his time at the BBC, David was also a regular reporter on Final Score and Football Focus, and presented on The Football League Show and Match Of The Day.

A new challenge presented itself with Sky Sports News in 2011, and David became an integral part of the presenting team, including stints anchoring Grand Prix in Melbourne, Monaco and at Silverstone.

F1 is one of David’s special areas of interest, along with tennis, cricket and football. Not happy being a spectator, David has delved deeper into these passions by making a documentary on brand new international football team, Gibraltar; getting involved in the odd charity badminton match, and helping his club, Sheffield Wednesday, with community based events.

Thriving on the unpredictable environment of 24-hour sports news, ‘Transfer Deadline Day' is one of David’s favourite working environments requiring precise preparation, concentration, and improvisation, and a good sense of humour, David is an energetic force in the newsroom.

With South-American parents, David speaks Spanish fluently, as well as French and German, which he studied at university.

A patron for Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and a champion of iStreetChild, David is very involved with the charity sector, having hosted various award ceremonies  and live events for these charities and many more.

Bilingual, confident and charismatic with bags of live event experience, David is an ideal awards host  and conference facilitator .
