Nigel Owens
Nigel Owens, a record-breaking rugby referee and TV presenter, has officiated 100 test matches and now runs a Pedigree Hereford farm in West Wales.
Nigel Owens first took up the referee whistle at the age of sixteen, and since officiating his first international match in 2005 between Ireland and Japan, he has risen to become one of rugby’s most respected and iconic referees. Over his distinguished career, Nigel has refereed in four Rugby World Cups, set a record with seven Heineken Cup finals and six Pro14 finals, and made history as the first referee to officiate 100 test matches – a remarkable achievement in the sport.
Beyond his refereeing career, Nigel is a co-presenter on "Jonathan", S4C’s popular Welsh-language rugby show, alongside Jonathan Davies. His dedication to rugby and his involvement in various charitable causes have seen him honoured with several accolades, including Honorary Doctorates from Swansea, South Wales, and Bath Universities, as well as Honorary Fellowships from Cardiff Met and Cardiff University.
Nigel’s first autobiography, "Hanner Amser" ("Half Time"), was released in Welsh in 2008, followed by the English edition in 2009, both of which continue to be well-received. His latest autobiography, "The Final Whistle", launched in November 2022, offers further insights into his extraordinary career and life beyond the field.
Since retiring from his illustrious refereeing career, Nigel has embraced a new chapter, running a small farm in West Wales, where he raises Pedigree Herefords.
