As a key architect of British Cycling’s cultural shift, Chris helped build a team that redefined success, using principles that have proven equally effective in business and infrastructure. His experience demonstrates that the greatest barrier to innovation is often ourselves, and overcoming it requires a fresh perspective on change.
Chris has spent two decades creating and leading high-performance teams across sport and government, inspiring individuals to thrive under pressure and embrace pioneering approaches. Drawing on his personal journey from unemployed carpenter to Olympic Champion and leader of national initiatives, he shares practical tools for achieving sustainable personal excellence.
Currently, Chris serves as Active Travel Commissioner for England, advising the Secretary of State for Transport, and is Chairman of Sport England, reporting to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. In recognition of his contributions, Chris was awarded a CBE for his work establishing a new arms-length body for government.
